After over a year of speculation about Love Island’s return amid the pandemic, the new series begins tonight. We’ve already seen snippets of the cast, and fans are now poised to meet the full Love Island 2021 contestants line-up as they enter the Majorca villa.
As always, this year’s contestants come to the show from a variety of different day jobs – from footballers to civil servants. As for Jake, he’ll be swapping his gig as a water engineer for a possible eight weeks in the Spanish sunshine.
But is Jake in it for love? And how will he be playing it in the villa? This is everything we know about Jake Cornish so far.

Why does Jake want to take part in Love Island?
Jake is very to the point when explaining his reasoning for taking part in the show, saying: “I was in a relationship for seven years and then, when lockdown hit, I was single. The opportunity is there, you might as well take it by the horns and go for it.”
But while he is in the villa, he does think he will miss the outside world. “[I will miss] my mum and my nieces. They’re lush. I’ll miss the lads but I’m sure they’ll enjoy watching me making a t*t out of myself.”
What does Jake do for work?
“I’m basically a handyman, a jack of all trades – just not electrics! I don’t go near electric.”
That’s all Jake has to say about his job but, considering his role involves water, we agree it is probably best he stays clear of all things electrical.
But don’t think that just because Jake is light on words that he won’t be a fun figure in the villa, as it seems he will be quite the opposite. “My family would say I’m the one who is always up for a laugh, always having fun. I don’t take anything seriously. The prankster! My nickname is Tigger from Winnie the Pooh because I’m always bouncing all over the place. I’ve always got so much energy.”
What is Jake like as a dater?
At just 24, Jake already has a seven-year relationship under his belt, and he says he’s in it for the long term. “I’m so used to being with one girl, I enjoyed it obviously. I’m 24 now, so I would like to think by the time I’m 30, you think, ‘I’d like to get married and have kids’. I’m still young but, before you know it, I’ll be 25 and then 26. So I would like to think I’d settle down.”
As for his ex-girlfriend, Jake says there’s no bad blood, and she’s since moved on with someone else. “She’s my childhood sweetheart. You just grow apart, don’t you? It didn’t end sour, it didn’t end bitter, it’s just a case of it is what it is. She went her way, I went my way, I’ve ended up here and she’s ended with a boyfriend,” he laughs.
Will his childhood sweetheart be watching?
Jake isn’t fussed about his ex seeing him in the villa. “I’m not worried, to be honest – there’s no bad blood,” he says. “It’s just that she’ll see me dating on the TV instead of down the pub, I suppose – the only difference!”
What is Jake looking for in a partner?
Some trust issues could cause Jake a problem in his hunt for somebody’s heart, but the main thing he is looking for in the villa is fun (oh and “little feet”).
“Looks-wise, always gone for blondes. But for me, the main thing is having respect and having good fun, and someone who will be loyal to you. I’ve had messages from girls that have got boyfriends and husbands. This is why I don’t trust anyone. [I want] someone who is loyal really. But when I’m single, I like having a good time!”
You might think that Jake would be a good match for Love Island’s ultimate loyalist, Georgia Steel, but he’s actually a big fan of 2019 star Molly-Mae Hague, and says she and Tommy Fury are his ultimate Love Island role models. “Molly’s a lady that I like a lady,” he says. “They just look so good together.” His favourite islander of all time is fellow West Country native Chris Hughes and, apparently, all his mates say he reminds them of Jake.
How will Jake play Casa Amor?
Will Jake follow in the footsteps of Josh Denzel and Michael “Chaldish” Griffiths and stray while away in infamous second villa Casa Amor? He’s not ruling it out… “If there is someone in there that I click better with and that I fancy more then, obviously, you’d be silly not to just because of being the nice person,” he says. “You’re all in there to find love and, if there’s love elsewhere, then you’re gonna go with that – it’s only the right thing to do.”
Let’s see if the girls agree, Jake…
