PS5 stock updates UK: new PS5 stock expected at Amazon and Smyths Toys this week

where to buy PS5

The brand new PS5 may have been out for months now, but getting your hands on one of the latest consoles is no easy feat. Stock issues have plagued the PS5 since its launch and whenever the consoles make it onto the shelves again they are hoovered up almost as quickly as they arrived. Seriously, PlayStation’s latest console is practically worth its own weight in gold right now.

It’s not that retailers aren’t receiving any new stock – it’s that it’s going faster than Glastonbury tickets. Last week, GAME delivered the goods for a short period. This drop followed an earlier one from Smyths and reports on social media that Very may have very briefly had stock. Unusually, this seemed to be only if you had a console on your wishlist at the retailer or managed to beat the waiting room, which many did manage to do.

But don’t be deterred if you didn’t grab a console. There should be more stock on the way, as both Amazon and Symths Toys are expected to go live with PS5 stock this week. However, neither of these retailers currently sell PS5 bundles. If you’re after PS5 accessories as well, we’ve pulled together a list of retailers for each item including the PS5 DualSense Controller and Pulse 3D Headset so that you’re ready to play as soon as the console finally arrives.

And if you’re fed up of waiting in virtual lines, you might like a new initiative from Currys. Currys has also recently launched their PS5 Priority Pass raffle to try and level the playing field a little more – your pass will be valid for 72 hours and if you’re lucky enough to be selected, you can buy a PS5 from your local Currys PC World store.

So far this year, we have also seen stock in the US appear at Target but only at stores in certain locations and they sold out as fast as ever, followed by sell-out drops at Walmart. We’ve also seen PS5 consoles appear at Best Buy and GameStop, and – in better news – stock didn’t disappear within a few seconds mainly due to changes to the ordering process to stop bots securing consoles.

Remember the console isn’t geo-locked so our top tip is look abroad if you’re struggling. Amazon Germany had stock on PS5 release day. It is worth noting that some UK Blu-rays and DVDs won’t play, so keep that in mind if you want the console for more than just gaming – although 4K discs will work.

We’re checking retailers regularly to bring you the latest PS5 restock updates in the UK and the best PS5 stock links so you have a chance to buy a console if you haven’t already. And, if you have got the console we also have links to accessories and PS5 games.

Remember there are two consoles, the standard edition and the digital; the PS5 Digital Edition doesn’t have a disc drive to play physical copies of the games.

We can’t guarantee you’ll get a console but check the links below for the latest stock. At some retailers you can also sign up to the mailing lists for further updates.

Stock did return, briefly, for some stores as part of Black Friday. Remember PS5 isn’t geo-locked so you can buy from any of the retailers below and still play your UK games. We’ll keep track and update you with the latest deals, but we expect they’ll be snapped up extremely quickly.

When will the PS5 be back in stock in the UK?

Since PS5 pre-orders went live in September last year, gamers have been grappling to get their hands on the Sony console. The release of the new PS5 Disk and Digital Edition has been plagued with stock issues and this remains the case six months on.

Retailers are still continually selling out of PS5 stock within minutes of it going live and that doesn’t look to be changing any time soon.

There are even Twitter accounts such as PS5 Stock Alert UK that inform gamers of when new stock might be released to give them a chance in the world of crashing websites and virtual queues.

The good thing is that more stock is available almost weekly now across a range of retailers including Amazon, Currys PC World, Very and Argos. So, while it may be in drips and drabs, there are PS5 consoles up for grabs for those who are patient.

Sony are reporting that the shortage of PS5 consoles will continue into the summer months so if you’re one of the unlucky gamers who haven’t got hold of a PS5 yet, you may want to set those reminders and get ready to click furiously – good luck.

Where can you buy a PS5 in the UK?

We’ll update you as more stores get stock and when it becomes available. Most retailers say they are “working tirelessly to get more stock”. We aim to check this regularly, but it’s still worth checking the below to see if stock has come back in:

Very

Smyths Toys

John Lewis

PS5 Accessories

As well as the PS5, console accessories have gone on sale. There’s the DualSense Controller, the Pulse 3D headset or the Media Remote. You could go all out when it comes to PS5 accessories and games, but don’t forget a lot of PS4 games are still work – Sony confirmed the PS5 backwards compatibility.

How to get a PS5: top tips

1. Bookmark our page and check back for stock – we keep this page updated and have the main retailers that have confirmed restock times.

2. Make sure you are checking just before any restock time – we’ll list confirmed times when we get them, just click through and get ready as when that stock appears it’ll be gone as fast as you can say ‘I want a PS5’.

3. Have your payment details ready and the money in your account – in the first pre-order round some people reported struggles to have their console confirmed, or message cropping up that it was checking payment. This seemed to ease on release day, but still make sure you remove all barriers by having the money in the account you’re using and the details ready to hand.

4. Move fast – there’s no pondering. If you know you want the PS5, decide which version, then get checking those links! As fast as stock appears it disappears.

5. Don’t worry – if you don’t get a console straight away keep checking back. Yes, it’s hard to get one right now, but there’s always the next restock!

Can I buy PS5 in store?

Online looks to be your best bet given that the UK is now in its third lockdown. With this one due to last several weeks at least, non-essential stores have been forced to close, meaning you won’t be able to just pop into your local GAME and pick up a console. This may differ with stores like Argos who have a click and collect system but you will need to check each retailer individually to see if they have that system in place.

How much does PS5 cost?

The PS5 price is £449 in the UK – that’s the same as Xbox Series X. There is the cheaper PS5 Digital Edition at £359.99 (Xbox Series S is cheaper). The digital console has the same specs as the standard PS5, it just doesn’t have the physical drive.

PS5 restock issues

PS5 pre-orders didn’t quite go to plan and, while launch day saw more PS5 come into stock, it wasn’t without its drama.

The journey hasn’t been easy for many trying to get a PS5 and you know that a pre-order release has not gone to plan when the company behind it come out and admit it. The official PlayStation Twitter account recently said “Let’s be honest: PS5 pre-orders could have been a lot smoother. We truly apologise for that.”

When it came to pre-orders GAME, Smyths, Very, Amazon and the regular retailers went live with stock overnight on the first pre-order date, but it was quickly snapped up. Argos and John Lewis went live next – and sold out within minutes too. While the consoles sold out before many of us even knew they were listed, we had been told that more were on the way. Retailers got more stock for the release date on 19th November – but it was all a bit of a mess with cancellations, queues systems and websites going down.

And this pattern has continued into 2021. The likes of Very, Smyths and Amazon are still the best retailers to keep your eye on for more PS5 stock but any available consoles are still selling out in minutes.

And, the demand doesn’t seem to be letting up. There are still waves of gamers battling to get their hands on consoles and this is likely to continue into summer. If you’re after a PS5, expect to have to act fast and wait in a virtual queue before being able to buy a console. This is, unfortunately, the same whether its a PS5 Digital or Disk Edition console you’re after.
