The brand new PS5 may have been out for months now, but getting your hands on one of the latest consoles is no easy feat. Stock issues have plagued the PS5 since its launch and whenever the consoles make it onto the shelves again they are hoovered up almost as quickly as they arrived. Seriously, PlayStation’s latest console is practically worth its own weight in gold right now.
It’s not that retailers aren’t receiving any new stock – it’s that it’s going faster than Glastonbury tickets. This morning, we saw Smyths get a load of stock in and gamers were snapping it up. Sadly it’s now out of stock again but don’t be deterred if you didn’t grab a console, there should be more on the way soon, just as we’ve seen this week.
This week alone we’ve seen stock drops from GAME, Amazon and Smyths Toys, but it flew out off the (virtual) shelves faster almost as quickly as it landed.
At GAME on Wednesday, there was a queue but it was worth it for successful buyers as there was a range of options available including the Disk Edition console and various bundles including PS5 accessories such as controllers, headsets and the HD camera.
The story is a familiar one as last week, we saw stock land at Amazon, Very, Argos and John Lewis but both the standard and digital editions of the console were selling out in minutes.
The latest news is that Currys is the next retailer due to get stock. The information comes from a Twitter account dedicated to tracking the highly sought-after console, which has correctly predicted all of this week’s PS5 stock drops.
As has become routine with these drops, retailers are keeping their cards close to their chest when it comes to exact dates or times but we will keep this page updated with all the latest news and stock releases as they go live.
Last month saw a very welcome change from the PS5 drought of January, with PS5 stock drops from almost all the major retailers. And even those who had stock live late into February are already promising that more of Sony’s highly sought-after console will be available this month, too. Smyths Toys was among this group and is already telling customers that it will have more PS5 consoles in stock in March 2021.
So far this year, we have also seen stock in the US appear at Target but only at stores in certain locations and they sold out as fast as ever, followed by sell-out drops at Walmart. We’ve also seen PS5 consoles appear at Best Buy and GameStop, and – in better news – stock didn’t disappear within a few seconds mainly due to changes to the ordering process to stop bots securing consoles.
Remember the console isn’t geo-locked so our top tip is look abroad if you’re struggling. Amazon Germany had stock on PS5 release day. It is worth noting that some UK Blu-rays and DVDs won’t play, so keep that in mind if you want the console for more than just gaming – although 4K discs will work.

Remember there are two consoles, the standard edition and the digital; the PS5 Digital Edition doesn’t have a disc drive to play physical copies of the games.

Stock did return, briefly, for some stores as part of Black Friday. Remember PS5 isn’t geo-locked so you can buy from any of the retailers below and still play your UK games. We’ll keep track and update you with the latest deals, but we expect they’ll be snapped up extremely quickly.

When will the PS5 be back in stock in the UK?
In short, “very soon” seems to be the answer with multiple retailers saying more stock is coming for February – we just have no firm date for when that will exactly be yet, although there are various rumours.
“Everything is sold. Absolutely everything is sold,” Head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan said. Since then PS5 had tweeted that more stock would come by the end of last year but it was few and far between.
It is expected that PS5 stock levels could remain low into Summer so we suggest keeping an eye on this page and stock alert Twitter accounts for the latest news on stock drops. And while February is coming to an end, we still expect Symths Toys, Currys PC World and GAME to have more PS5 consoles available in the next couple of weeks.
AO.com put a message up on its website letting customers know it’s run out of stock again. At least they’re being upfront! The message says: “We’re really sorry but unfortunately we don’t have any PlayStation 5 consoles available for order at the moment and we won’t be receiving any stock in the near future.”
Currys also took 2020 customers on something of a rollercoaster. Originally Currys got customers hopes up saying it was due to get stock on release day. Confusion followed, as Currys postponed then cancelled the launch and we haven’t seen any new stock since.
Some customers also claimed they had managed to order the PS5 but then had the order cancelled. Currys then tweeted confirming no stock was available. Since then, Currys has said it is “working super hard to get more stock” and, just like everyone else, more is now expected this month.
Very, Argos, Tesco and John Lewis all had issues with their websites on PS5 release day, but came back online and went promptly out of stock. EE and BT similarly confirmed in the morning customers could buy stock from them too, but… you guessed it, it sold out fast.
Amazon is offering a little bit more hope for UK restock as it has told customers who complain through its web support to refresh the page regularly, but, manage your expectations – there was no indication of when stock would return.
Our other hint of stock returning came from ShopTo.net, who are now allowing customers to register their interest again – suggesting that more stock is on its way again.
But regardless of these stumbles, it should only be a matter of time now until the next big wave of stock arrives and we will keep you posted when we hear anything about a concrete date.

How to get a PS5: top tips
1. Bookmark our page and check back for stock – we keep this page updated and have the main retailers that have confirmed restock times.
2. Make sure you are checking just before any restock time – we’ll list confirmed times when we get them, just click through and get ready as when that stock appears it’ll be gone as fast as you can say ‘I want a PS5’.
3. Have your payment details ready and the money in your account – in the first pre-order round some people reported struggles to have their console confirmed, or message cropping up that it was checking payment. This seemed to ease on release day, but still make sure you remove all barriers by having the money in the account you’re using and the details ready to hand.
4. Move fast – there’s no pondering. If you know you want the PS5, decide which version, then get checking those links! As fast as stock appears it disappears.
5. Don’t worry – if you don’t get a console straight away keep checking back. Yes, it’s hard to get one right now, but there’s always the next restock!

Can I buy PS5 in store?
Online looks to be your best bet given that the UK is now in its third lockdown. With this one due to last several weeks at least, non-essential stores have been forced to close, meaning you won’t be able to just pop into your local GAME and pick up a console. This may differ with stores like Argos who have a click and collect system but you will need to check each retailer individually to see if they have that system in place.
How much does PS5 cost?
The PS5 price is £449 in the UK – that’s the same as Xbox Series X. There is the cheaper PS5 Digital Edition at £359.99 (Xbox Series S is cheaper). The digital console has the same specs as the standard PS5, it just doesn’t have the physical drive.
PS5 restock issues
PS5 pre-orders didn’t quite go to plan and, while launch day saw more PS5 come into stock, it wasn’t without its drama.
The journey hasn’t been easy for many trying to get a PS5 and you know that a pre-order release has not gone to plan when the company behind it come out and admit it. The official PlayStation Twitter account recently said “Let’s be honest: PS5 preorders could have been a lot smoother. We truly apologise for that.”
When it came to pre-orders GAME, Smyths, Very, Amazon and the regular retailers went live with stock overnight on the first pre-order date, but it was quickly snapped up. Argos and John Lewis went live next – and sold out within minutes too.
While the consoles sold out before many of us even knew they were listed, we had been told that more were on the way. Retailers got more stock for the release date on 19th November – but it was all a bit of a mess with cancellations, queues systems and websites going down. The extra stock that did appear on launch day flew off the virtual shelves and sold out within minutes. GameStop got PS5 stock (in-store) and scenes of consumers cutting Thanksgiving celebrations short and bringing actual beds to sleep outside the stores surfaced online. Walmart also restocked for Black Friday.
The way things stand it’s a bit of a wild west out there with restocking happening suddenly and sometimes very early in the morning – Argos restocked at 4am! Your best bet is to keep an eye on our rumoured dates and get ready for the January 2021 restock.
