Boris Johnson will be delivering another coronavirus briefing later on today, with the Prime Minister expected to update the nation on England’s “roadmap” out of lockdown.
With tomorrow marking seven weeks in the third lockdown, this evening’s press conference will give the nation a clearer idea as to the government’s exit strategy as well as a potential update on the vaccine rollout.
Johnson is also expected to announce the official date for reopening schools, which has been set as 8th March, before explaining the four steps of lifting lockdown.

When is the coronavirus briefing time today?
The conference will be broadcast from 7pm today (Monday 22nd February).
With the Prime Minister updating the nation on his roadmap out of England’s third lockdown, he’ll be addressing MPs at the House of Commons at 3:30pm, before leading a Downing Street press conference in the evening.

Until the end of June, the government had been holding daily COVID-19 briefings from Downing Street, but in the time since it has only been addressing the public when there has been significant new information to report.
Since England went into its third national lockdown, the briefings have become increasingly more frequent.

In previous cases, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been supported by Deputy Chief Medical Officer Professor Jonathan Van Tam, Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance, England’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, and NHS Chief Executive Sir Simon Stevens.
However, government figures have also been joined by other medical and science experts including NHS England’s regional medical director for London Dr Vin Diwakar.
What will be included in today’s briefing?
Today’s briefing is expected to see Johnson present his “roadmap” out of the current lockdown, which will be lifted in four steps without a return to the regional tiered system as long as transmission rates are low.
The Prime Minister is also set to confirm school reopening dates, with those in England set to open their doors on 8th March. Outdoor sports facilities will reopen three weeks later.
We may also receive an update on the vaccine rollout, whether the plan is on track and which groups are next on the priority list for their jabs.

Yes, the Prime Minister will lead today’s briefing.
Johnson has led several briefings in recent weeks which have been used to declare crucial information, such as the announcement of the third national lockdown and updates on the UK’s vaccination programme.
Other ministers who have led briefings in the past include Health Secretary Matt Hancock, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and Home Secretary Priti Patel.
Does Boris Johnson have coronavirus?
Johnson announced he had tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday 27th March 2020 via a video on his Twitter account.
Nine days later he was admitted into hospital and Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab deputised in his absence.
Johnson was discharged on Sunday 12th April and returned to work on the week commencing 27th April.
In November 2020, he underwent another period of self-isolation after coming into contact with someone who tested positive.
