Luca Attanasio was travelling in convoy in east of country
The Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a military policeman travelling with him have been killed in an attack on a United Nations convoy in eastern Congo, the Italian foreign ministry said in a statement on Monday.
Luca Attanasio died in the Virunga National Park while travelling in a Monusco convoy, a park spokesman told Italian media, adding that the attack was part of an attempt to kidnap UN personnel.
