More than 8 million coronavirus infections were recorded worldwide in July, almost as many as in the first six months of the global pandemic put together. The WHO says the number of cases is now doubling every six weeks. In the US, which reported a record 1.87 million cases last month, the overall total is now approaching 5 million.
