The Cube reboot ‘sets £1m prize with Phillip Schofield to return as host’

The Cube

ITV has made plans to bring back its popular game show The Cube after a five year absence – and the revived version will reportedly have a £1 million cash prize up for grabs.

According to The Sun, the reboot will once again be hosted by Phillip Schofield, but the show will now see two different contestants from the same household join forces in an attempt to win the jackpot.

A source was quoted as saying, “The last time The Cube aired was in 2015, so there was no way ITV would bring it back without making some radical changes to refresh the show.

“The former jackpot was £250,000, and since the show is also about coping with tension, they felt having a seven-figure sum at stake would increase that even further.

“But the simple format at the heart of the show remains largely unchanged — it’s still about contestants desperately trying to keep their cool.”

The show was consistently a ratings hit during its original nine series run between 2009 and 2015, with contestants tasked with competing a range of stressful challenges while trapped inside a four-metre square cube.

The original series success saw the concept sold around the world, with versions of the game show being broadcast in eleven different countries including Italy, China and Saudi Arabia, while a US pilot hosted by Neil Patrick Harris did not materialise into a full series.
