‘We have to take a stand’: crowds call for justice as protests ignite across the US

The largest demonstrations so far have been in Minneapolis and St Paul, but others quickly sprang up in New York, California and Georgia

Protests over police brutality and the death of George Floyd ignited once again on Friday across the US, as demonstrators clashed with police in Minneapolis, New York and Atlanta.

Gatherings were largely peaceful as people marched in the streets from Los Angeles to New York, but in Atlanta, demonstrators set a police car ablaze and broke windows at CNN’s headquarters. Meanwhile in Washington, the White House went under lockdown orders as protesters gathered outside.
