Hong Kong airport: hundreds of flights cancelled ahead of further protests

More protests expected on Tuesday as Beijing state media warn that city is at a ‘critical juncture’

Hundreds of flights out of Hong Kong have been cancelled and passengers stranded, a day after one of the world’s busiest airports shut down in a dramatic response to mass demonstrations.

Hong Kong’s leader, Carrie Lam, said on Tuesday that “lawbreaking activities in the name of freedom” were damaging the rule of law and that the territory’s recovery from the protests could take a long time.
