Two things stole the show on Oscars night 2019: Olivia Colman’s teary, raspberry-blowing acceptance speech, and HBO’s surprise sizzle reel of all its biggest upcoming shows, which dropped just a few hours before the ceremony kicked off.
Of course, any HBO trailer wouldn’t be complete without a clip of the world’s favourite fantasy series, Game of Thrones — and fans were rewarded with a sneak preview of Drogon, Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) biggest dragon, about 50 seconds in.

In the trailer, Drogon is seen soaring over armed troops in what appears to be a rather chilly climate. Could this be Winterfell preparing for battle with the oncoming White Walkers and Army of the Dead?
In what looks like a confirmation of our Winterfell hypothesis, we then see Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) staring up at Drogon in admiration, a smile playing on her lips.
Arya and a dragon? HBO, you’re spoiling us…
Season eight will begin on Sunday 14th April in the US, with UK viewers able to watch at the same time on Sky Atlantic.
The eighth season of Game of Thrones will consist of just six episodes, but they’re bound to be worth the wait and feature plenty of heart-stopping battles that will put even the Battle of the Bastards to shame…
